Fresh Collective — Glossary

Version 1.0

Fresh Collective has its own language.

Some of these words describe familiar things in a slightly different way. Others describe parts of the Fresh Collective world that are specific to the platform.

This Glossary is here to make that language easier to understand.

It is explanatory rather than a standalone legal agreement. Where a formal definition or rule is required, the relevant Fresh Collective policy or agreement applies.

Fresh Collective is for people aged 18 years and over.

About

The public-facing area of a Collective that explains what the Collective is, who it is for and how someone can participate.

Depending on the Collective, About may include:

  • the Creator
  • the purpose of the Collective
  • joining information
  • purchase options
  • what access includes
  • upcoming Gatherings
  • other useful information

For someone who is not yet a Member, About is often the main entry point into a Collective.

Access

Permission to see or use a particular part of Fresh Collective.

Access may depend on things such as:

  • whether you are signed in
  • whether you are a Member
  • whether you have active access
  • a purchase you have made
  • an access grant from a Creator
  • the settings of the Collective

Access is not always the same thing as membership.

Active Access

Current access to something that requires more than simply being a Member of a Collective.

Active access might come from:

  • a purchase
  • a current subscription
  • a fixed-term program
  • a Creator-granted access arrangement
  • another supported access option

For example, someone might remain a Member of a Collective after their active access to a particular term or Pathway has ended.

Membership is the relationship. Active access determines what is currently open to you.

Booking

A reserved place in a Gathering.

A booking may depend on:

  • available capacity
  • your access
  • your booking allowance
  • the Gathering being open for bookings
  • other conditions set for the Gathering

A confirmed booking may also make attendee-only information available to you.

Booking Allowance

The number of eligible Gatherings a particular purchase allows someone to book.

For example, a purchase might include:

  • one session per week
  • two sessions per week
  • three sessions per week
  • a set number of Gatherings within a Series

A booking allowance is attached to the relevant access or purchase.

It is not the same as Collective membership.

Collective

A home for a Creator's work and community within Fresh Collective.

A Collective may bring together things such as:

  • Gatherings
  • Pathways
  • Conversations
  • Members
  • resources
  • paid experiences
  • learning
  • community

Every Collective has its own purpose, personality and way of operating.

Some are free to join.

Others require a purchase.

Collective Home

The Member-facing home of a Collective.

Once someone belongs to a Collective, Collective Home brings together the areas available to them.

Depending on the Collective and the Member's access, this may include:

  • Gatherings
  • Pathways
  • Conversations
  • Messages
  • Members
  • About

Creators can shape the layout and appearance of their Collective Home.

Community Contributions

Content contributed by people participating in Fresh Collective rather than content created by Fresh Collective or the Creator.

Community Contributions may include:

  • posts
  • comments
  • replies
  • discussion content
  • reactions
  • shared resources
  • other community participation

People remain responsible for the things they contribute.

Community Guidelines

The shared behavioural standards that apply across Fresh Collective.

They cover matters such as:

  • respectful participation
  • disagreement
  • harassment
  • privacy
  • discrimination
  • Creator conduct
  • moderation
  • safety
  • reporting concerns

Different Collectives can have their own additional expectations, but they cannot override the Fresh Collective Community Guidelines.

Conversations

Community discussion spaces within a Collective.

Conversations can be used to:

  • share ideas
  • ask questions
  • respond to other Members
  • explore topics
  • participate in community discussion

Who can access Conversations depends on the Collective's settings.

Conversations are different from Messages, which are more private communications with the people running a Collective.

Creator

A person who creates and operates a Collective within Fresh Collective.

A Creator may be a:

  • teacher
  • facilitator
  • coach
  • practitioner
  • artist
  • educator
  • community builder
  • maker
  • guide
  • person with something meaningful to gather people around

Creators shape their own work and communities while operating within Fresh Collective's shared platform rules.

Creator Content

Original content a Creator provides through Fresh Collective.

This might include:

  • written material
  • videos
  • audio
  • images
  • exercises
  • worksheets
  • resources
  • Pathways
  • Gathering information
  • educational material
  • branding

Creators generally retain ownership of the intellectual property they hold in their Creator Content.

Buying access does not transfer ownership of the Creator's work to the Member.

Creator Plan

A Fresh Collective plan that gives a Creator access to Creator functionality.

Depending on the plan, it may include things such as:

  • access to Creator Studio
  • Collective creation and management
  • payment functionality
  • particular Creator features
  • a subscription fee
  • platform fees

Different Creator plans may have different pricing or conditions.

Creator Studio

The part of Fresh Collective where Creators build and manage their Collectives.

Creator Studio may be used to manage things such as:

  • Collective settings
  • appearance
  • Collective Home
  • access and visibility
  • Gatherings
  • Series
  • Pathways
  • Payment Options
  • Members
  • attendance
  • other Creator tools

It is the management side of a Collective rather than the Member experience.

Discover Places

A Fresh Collective discovery area based around real-world locations.

Discover Places can help people find things such as:

  • Collectives connected with a location
  • upcoming public Gatherings
  • Gathering Series
  • other Fresh Collective activity in that area

For example, someone exploring Melbourne might discover Fresh Collective experiences happening there.

Everyone

An access setting that means the relevant area can be viewed without being a Member of the Collective.

Depending on the feature, this may include people who are not signed in.

Not every Collective area can be made available to Everyone.

Fixed Payment Plan

A way of paying an agreed total purchase price through a fixed number of instalments.

For example:

$37 per week for 10 weeks Total commitment: $370.00

A fixed payment plan has a defined total price and number of payments.

It is not the same as an ongoing subscription.

Fresh Collective

The platform and wider world that brings together Creators, Members, Collectives, Gatherings, Pathways, Conversations and other ways to participate.

Fresh Collective provides the shared infrastructure.

Creators build places within it.

Members bring those places to life.

Fresh Collective Content

Content owned or licensed by Fresh Collective itself.

This may include:

  • platform design
  • branding
  • Fresh Collective copy
  • original illustrations
  • software
  • interfaces
  • World Guide material
  • other Fresh Collective-created resources

This is different from Creator Content and Community Contributions.

Gathering

An experience that happens at a particular time.

A Gathering may be:

  • in person
  • online
  • free
  • paid
  • one-off
  • recurring
  • part of a Series

Examples might include:

  • a class
  • workshop
  • discussion
  • practice session
  • event
  • community meet-up

Gatherings are created and managed by Creators.

Gathering Series

A group of related Gatherings that belong together.

A Series might represent:

  • a term
  • a recurring program
  • a sequence of sessions
  • a multi-week experience

For example, a ten-week program containing several sessions each week can be presented as one Series while still keeping each individual session as its own Gathering for booking and attendance.

A Gathering Series may also simply be called a Series.

Joining Option

A purchase option that allows someone to become a Member of a purchase-required Collective.

A Joining Option may include more than membership.

For example, it might also provide:

  • Pathway access
  • Gathering access
  • a booking allowance
  • resources
  • access to a particular program or term

Different Joining Options may include different amounts of access.

Member

A person who belongs to a Collective.

Depending on the Collective, someone may become a Member by:

  • joining for free
  • making a qualifying purchase
  • accepting an invitation
  • being added through a Creator-managed process

Membership does not necessarily mean every part of the Collective is available to that person.

Some areas may require active access.

Member Directory

An optional area that helps Members of a Collective see and recognise other Members.

Where the Creator enables it, eligible Members may be able to see selected profile information about other Members.

The Member Directory exists to support connection.

It is not intended to be used as a marketing list.

Members

An access setting that limits an area to people who belong to the Collective.

A Member may still need active access for other areas of the same Collective.

Members with Active Access

An access setting that limits an area to Members who also hold current qualifying access.

This may be used for areas connected with a current:

  • program
  • purchase
  • term
  • subscription
  • Pathway
  • other paid or granted access

Someone whose active access has ended may remain a Member while no longer seeing these areas.

Messages

A private communication area that allows Members to contact the people running their Collective.

Messages may be used for things such as:

  • questions
  • clarification
  • private concerns
  • communication with the Collective team

Messages are different from Conversations.

Conversations are community discussion spaces.

Messages are designed for more private communication with the people running the Collective.

Moderator

A person who has permission to help manage community participation within a Collective.

Depending on the tools available, a Moderator may help with things such as:

  • Conversations
  • Community Contributions
  • Member behaviour
  • other Collective management

Moderators remain subject to Fresh Collective's Community Guidelines and other applicable terms.

One-off Payment

A single payment for the offering described at the time of purchase.

For example, this might be payment for:

  • one Gathering
  • a workshop
  • a course
  • a defined period of access
  • another one-time offering

A one-off payment is different from a subscription or fixed payment plan.

Our Philosophy

The document that explains the ideas and principles behind Fresh Collective.

It describes why Fresh Collective is being built the way it is and the kind of world the platform is trying to create.

Our Philosophy is cultural and explanatory rather than a standalone legal agreement.

Pathway

A structured way to move through ideas, learning or experiences within a Collective.

A Pathway may contain things such as:

  • written content
  • activities
  • reflection prompts
  • exercises
  • resources
  • learning material

A Pathway may be available to:

  • Everyone
  • Members
  • Members with active access

depending on the Collective's settings.

Payment Option

A Creator-configured way for someone to purchase an offering through Fresh Collective.

A Payment Option describes what the person is buying and what access it provides.

It may grant things such as:

  • Collective membership
  • Pathway access
  • Gathering Series access
  • resources
  • booking allowances
  • other supported access

A Payment Option can sometimes also act as a Joining Option for a purchase-required Collective.

Payment Schedule

The way a purchase is paid.

For example, a Payment Option may offer:

  • one payment in full
  • a fixed number of instalments
  • an ongoing subscription

The Payment Schedule explains when and how much will be charged.

A Payment Option describes what you are buying.

A Payment Schedule describes how you are paying for it.

Place

A real-world location represented within Discover Places.

A Place might be:

  • a city
  • a region
  • another meaningful geographic area

A Place can bring together public Fresh Collective activity connected with that location.

For example:

Melbourne is a Place within Discover Places.

Private Venue Information

Specific Gathering location information that is not intended for general public display.

This may include:

  • street address
  • residential address
  • access instructions
  • gate codes
  • entry details
  • other attendee-only information

Private Venue Information may only be made available to eligible attendees or people responsible for managing the Gathering.

Public Location

General location information that can safely be displayed publicly for a Gathering.

For example:

South Croydon, Victoria

A Public Location helps people understand where an experience takes place without exposing a private street address or access instructions.

Purchase-required Collective

A Collective where someone needs to make an eligible purchase before becoming a Member.

The purchase may provide:

  • membership
  • access to a program or term
  • Pathways
  • Gatherings
  • booking allowances
  • other inclusions

The available Joining Options should be shown before the person purchases.

Series

See Gathering Series.

Subscription

A recurring payment arrangement that continues until it is cancelled or otherwise ends.

A subscription should clearly explain:

  • the recurring amount
  • how often the payment occurs
  • what is included
  • how cancellation works

A subscription is different from a fixed payment plan.

Terms of Use

The main agreement governing use of Fresh Collective.

The Terms of Use sit above the other formal Fresh Collective policies and agreements.

More specific documents apply to particular roles or activities, including:

  • Membership Terms
  • Creator Agreement
  • Payment, Refund & Cancellation Policy
  • Community Guidelines
  • Privacy Policy

Ways to Connect

A developing area of Fresh Collective intended to create additional ways for people to discover meaningful connection through the platform.

The exact Ways to Connect features may evolve as Fresh Collective grows.

Where available, they operate within Fresh Collective's normal privacy, access and Community Guidelines.

World Guide

The practical guide to how the Fresh Collective world works.

The World Guide explains:

  • Collectives
  • membership
  • access
  • Gatherings
  • Pathways
  • payments
  • community features
  • discovery
  • other parts of Fresh Collective

It is designed to make the platform easier to understand without turning every explanation into a legal clause.

Your World

The part of Fresh Collective that helps you return to the communities and experiences that belong to your own Fresh Collective journey.

Depending on the features available, Your World may bring together things such as:

  • Collectives you belong to
  • experiences you are participating in
  • other relevant parts of your Fresh Collective world

One final distinction

Three ideas appear throughout Fresh Collective and are worth keeping separate:

Membership

I belong here.

Your ongoing relationship with a Collective.

Active Access

This is currently available to me.

The access you hold to particular experiences or areas.

Purchase

This is what I paid for.

A transaction that may create membership, active access, a booking allowance or some combination of them.

They often work together.

But they are not the same thing.
